Infinity Ward has update Modern Warfare 3 today to launch Community Playlists, among other changes.
"The biggest change you'll notice is the addition of Community Playlists," explains the developer. "This is where we will add popular or unique private match modes to the public playlists, so you can start ranking up on them," it said - as teased earlier this week.
The update also adds a new playlist called 'Drop Zone', and a few changes to the Hardcore playlists. Here are the details in IW's words:
DROP ZONE:
Get to the drop zone to earn points, the first team to 7500 points wins the round, but thats not all. As long as the Drop Zone is occupied, a care package will drop every 15 seconds, which ever team has the most members in the drop zone at that point "owns" the care package, but anyone can steal it. This is the only way to earn air support in this mode, all other pointstreaks are disabled. You'll earn 20 points per team member, for every second they're in the drop zone plus 20 XP individually for your time spent in the zone. Kills are worth 50 XP in this mode.
Custom Settings: Pointstreaks (besides those obtained through in-game care packages) are disabled.
Hardcore HQ Ricochet:
We'll be adding Hardcore Headquarters to the Hardcore Team Tactical playlist.
Hardcore Ricochet:
We'll be converting all Hardcore modes to Ricochet variant as a response to team killing. This means, any friendly fire, is applied to the attacker, rather than the victim. So choose your shots wisely and any attempt to team kill will simply kill yourself.

On November 7, as fans gear up for the highly-anticipated release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, they can be a part of the action by watching the UK launch event live via http://www.youtube.com/codmw3launch, a dedicated YouTube channel that will deliver all of the excitement in real-time. The partnership between YouTube and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will serve to give fans an All Access Pass to the most prestigious launch event of the year, providing a unique opportunity to head behind the scenes and be a part of the action as it unfolds.
The high voltage action kicks off on Monday 7th November at 7pm as guests arrive on the ‘green’ carpet. Three dedicated roaming crews, hosted by well-known TV presenter Rick Edwards, Graeme Boyd aka @AceyBongos from Xbox LIVE and YouTube super user DaveyBoyz, will stream a wealth of content including:
- Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward developer interviews
- Content from No.1 selling UK artist, Example
- Celebrity interviews
- Live coverage of the pan-European Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Championship powered by Xbox Live
- Live coverage of the pan-European celebrity multiplayer tournament
- Interviews with UK MP team Infinity- runners up from the CODXP global competition
- Live link ups with Berlin and Paris launch events
- Midnight store opening coverage with all the fans
In addition to being available via YouTube, the event will also be live streamed by promotional partner Xbox 360 across EMEA on all Xbox Facebook pages including http://www.Facebook.com/XboxUK, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Facebook page and Callofduty.com and will culminate just after the game goes on sale, at 12am on the 8th November.

Steam Trading has now been launmched, which allows you to exchange In-game items and Gifts with everybody in the Steam Community.
Now you can trade Steam Gifts and in-game items from Valve games Team Fortress 2 and Portal 2, as well as from Spiral Knights, the cooperative adventure from Three Rings and Sega. We’re working with other developers to incorporate Trading and Inventories into their games, so keep an eye out for future announcements in the coming months.
Your Steam Community profile now has an item Inventory, and you'll be able to view the Inventories of every public profile in the Steam Community.

Infinity Ward unveiled today that they will use dedicated servers when they launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Infinity Ward used their own matchmaking system since 2009.
During Gamescom Infinity Ward told us once again that they would give special attention to the pc version of Modern Warfare 3. This is why they decided to reintroduce dedicated servers. An exact reason has not been given, but this sounds good for competitive gamers...

MMO specialist NCsoft is teasing a "world exclusive" reveal for GamesCom in Cologne next month.
Click to view larger image In a release sent out to press today, the company said in a statement: "As outstanding members of the gaming media community we'd love to invite you to join us for a World Exclusive Announcement and Press Briefing at our stand on Wednesday 17th August."
We'll have men on the ground in Germany, so expect news to land right here around then,The news looks likely to be Guild Wars 2-related - and our money's on a release date.
NcSoft has been steadily releasing information and assets linked to the game throughout this year,The title's developer, Arenanet, has promised to create "a subscription-free MMO where players create their own personalised story in a richly imagined world where their actions have real consequences".
Guild Wars 2 will feature five races: humans and charr, first introduced in Prophecies, the asura and norn, first introduced in Eye of the North, and the all-new sylvari.
